Donate Reward Points to Plant Trees and Support Rural Livelihood

About the Project

There has been increased focus on tree plantation and green space expansion but traditionally these programs have remained unorganized and lacked tracking. ‘SankalpTaru Foundation’ aims to expand the green space on earth by appealing to the conscience of customers of carbon emitting industries like petroleum, manufacturing, airlines etc. Our idea proposes to form an alliance with these industry organizations. This alliance would enable customers of participating organizations to redeem their loyalty points in the form of tree plantations done on their behalf. The tree plantation activity would be taken up by our partner NGOs. SankalpTaru will develop an involving relationship with the customers by providing a portal to track, share and discuss the progress of their plantations. None of the transactions with customers involve money as they contribute from their loyalty points which they have earned from their respective reward programs.
The plantation sites will be chosen wherein there is a pressing need to plant trees (check soil erosion, carry out afforestation, water conservation etc.) and also extend socio-economic benefits to the surroundings in terms of green jobs and livelihood support.

Recently the SankalpTaru initiative finished as National Runners up in the ‘Take Care Take Charge’ campaign sponsored by Times of India; where it was very well received and endorsed by eminent panelists from National Innovation Foundation, Centre of Environment Education and other environmental agencies.

Who will this help Rise

• You and me who are looking at ways to offset our carbon footprint
• Corporates who are serious in offsetting the adverse affect caused by their operations on environment
• Our Environment
• NGOs and Social Forestry entities (Van Panchayats) working at ground level
• Employment opportunities for rural people

How will this help them Rise?

• Individuals - By contributing their loyalty points for tree plantation, users of products which have significant impact on environment would be able to offset their carbon footprint in a convenient and economic manner
• Corporates - Carbon emitting industries would be able to draw publicity to their balancing acts of planting trees by communicating with their customers through our portal
• NGOs and Social Forestry entities - Sankalp Taru would direct funds received from Corporates for mass plantations to afforestation related NGOs. It would also attach credibility to these NGOs by providing a plantation activity tracking feature enabled in the portal.
• Rural People - For the post plantation care of planted saplings and portal operations, Sankalp Taru plans to recruit rural people
